Chincoteague Pony

The Legend of the Pony and the Pony Swim
The Ponies live on the islands of Chincoteague, Virginia and Assateague, Maryland.
The legend is that they swam to shore from a sinking Spanish Vessel around 1600. The ponies survived eating course salt marsh grasses and drinking salt water.
Every year, the ponies are rounded up and some are auctioned, the money is used to maintain the wild pony parks.
